52 OFFICES PART 8:
Many New Yorkers avoid Times Sq. It’s too busy, a tourist trap and an extremely successful one at that. Like Londoners, New Yorkers also moan about tourists.
Personally I like tourists. So today after an early piece of business uptown I decided to make Times Sq Office No 8.
Today’s task is copywriting, no machines just an iPhone, Embassy Pen and notebook.
I sit and watch the tourists, bewildered, excited, watchful parents, great gangling euro teens, groups of Asians with cameras and smiley face hand signs.
They are all my co-workers today along with a number of Hello Kitties and Elmos. I’ve worn these costumes before and they are hell on a warm day today. A Hello Kitty gives me a friendly hug. I can’t help but smile.
Today’s office fact:
Formerly named Longacre Square, it was renamed in April 1904 after the New York Times moved its headquarters to the Times Building, now called One Times Square.
