The Blank Sheet Awards
“A blank sheet of paper is the most creatively liberating thing there is.” - Me.
Brief
Back in my Cunning NYC days, we would sometimes have a brainstorm under the “ProCreation” title. This was in response to quiet times between pitches or new business wins. The idea was to come up with “stuff” which would reflect well on the agency and perhaps get client attention and conversations going. It was also a good opportunity for personal pet projects to get an airing.
Idea
The Blank Sheet Awards was an idea to provoke people into creative thinking, using restriction as a method to foster imaginative play.
Creative folks would be invited to take a plain blank piece of paper (US Letter/A4) and do something, anything creative with it. Could be a drawing or painting, a story, code, origami, a wedge to stop a table wobbling etc.
Interested people could download the blank paper from our website (daft I know) and register themselves.
The resulting efforts would be shown in a “gallery” style setting with a panel of creative big shots voting for the strongest responses.
Results
Nothing came of it. It’s sat in my Idea Vault for over a decade now. I still can’t decide if it’s a good idea or just daft.
